PANAJI: Revolutionary Goans Chief Manoj Parab will take on Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane in his pocket borough of Valpoi constituency as well as contest from his native Tivim constituency where he was brought up and raised.

Announcing the decision the Revolutionary Goans Party said that Manoj Parab was responding to the challenge thrown to them by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, who had challenged the Revolutionary Goans or anyone for that matter to contest against him.

“We hereby announce that we have accepted the challenge thrown by Vishwajit Rane, a man who thinks no end of himself and who is universally disliked across the state and who is responsible for countless deaths in Goa due to failure to tackle the Covid crisis in the state. I now throw a counter challenge to him that he should not flee from the Valpoi seat and run to the Poriem seat represented by his father and field his wife in Valpoi,” Manoj Parab said at the press conference.

Parab, said he was contesting two seats not one as the ‘safe option’ as all seats were equally difficult but he has been receiving demands from his party workers of various constituencies that Manoj should contest from.

“There were demands that I should contest from Sanquelim as well, but finally I have decided that I will contest both from Tivim — where I live and am a registered voter and where many of my childhood friends and neighbours live as well as from Valpoi to send these leaders who act like they are kings and rulers back home,” Parab said.

Parab has also been announced as the CM face for the party.

“For the past 50 years the Ranes have been representing the Sattari constituencies but have never bothered about the people they represent — they have not got land rights, they have not been truly freed from the yoke of colonialism,” Parab said.

“There will be challenges along the way and other parties too will be out with their full might to defeat us but we are not wavering and I will win by a majority of two to three thousand votes in both the constituencies,” Parab said.

The Revolutionary Goans had announced that they will be contesting elections in all 40 constituencies in the state and have announced candidates for more than half the seats.
