The High court of Goa has directed the Government and Margao Municipal Council to ensure that the bio-medical waste at Sonsoddo to be cleared, at the earliest.
Public interest litigation was filed to clear the dump, the petition mentions that there is 1 tonne of biomedical waste dumped at Sonsoddo. Advocate General Devidas Pangam representing Goa Waste Management Corporation has told that a report will be filed on June 28 on the status of the dump.
S D Padiyar Margao municipal council’s counsel told the court that a special agency named, Goa Health Monitoring Services which has an office in Porvorim is authorized by the Goa State Pollution Control Board to collect biomedical waste from Covid-19 patients in home isolation.
The bench said that “In the first place the waste shouldn’t at Sonsoddo and the waste has to be cleared off immediately.”
